Meet the Medical Staff Affairs Staff

Ed Benge, MD

Vice President

Eddie Benge MD is Vice President of Medical Staff Affairs. Dr. Benge works with the medical staff of Presbyterian's Albuquerque hospitals to enhance clinical quality. He oversees the Medical Directors of the prestigious Heart, Children's, Women's, Behavioral and Medicine Centers, as well as the Presbyterian Medical Library, Medical Education, and Research.

Formerly Chief Medical Officer at St. Joseph Healthcare System, Dr. Benge returns to Presbyterian where he previously practiced as a rheumatologist with the Presbyterian Medical Group. A native of Lovington, Dr. Benge received his MD from UNM and completed his residency and Rheumatology Fellowship at the University of Iowa.


Ronald Quenzer, MD

Executive Medical Director

Dr. Ron Quenzer oversees medical staff compliance with standards for hospital accreditation and licensure, and also maintains effective relationships between the medical staff and administration departments. In his previous role at Presbyterian, Dr. Quenzer was the Medical Director of Care Coordination and Utilization Management.

Before joining Presbyterian, Dr. Quenzer was the Vice President for Medical Staff Affairs and Executive Director of the Graduate Medical Education at Huntington Hospital in Pasadena, CA. Prior to this he served the UNM School of Medicine as Professor of Medicine and Vice-Chair of Clinical Affairs.

Dr. Quenzer received his medical degree for Rush Medical College in Chicago, IL and completed his residency at Presbyterian-St Luke's in Chicago and his fellowship in Infectious Diseases at University of Colorado and University of New Mexico. He is board certified in Internal Medicine and Infectious Diseases.

Tammy Nelson

Manager

Tammy Nelson, Manager of Medical Staff Affairs, has worked with Presbyterian Healthcare Services since 1996. She was the Credentialing/Medical Record Review Manager for the health plan before coming to Medical Staff Affairs.

Tammy has been a medical staff services professional for 23 years. She maintains two certifications through the National Association of Medical Staff Services (CMSC and CPCS). She has been actively involved in this national organization, as well as the state chapter (New Mexico Association Medical Staff Services).

Tammy's responsibilities include:

  • Management of day-to-day operations of the Office of Medical Staff Affairs
  • Oversight of the Medical Staff's credentialing program
  • Oversight of credentialing services provided to other Presbyterian regional facilities
  • Maintenance of the Medical Staff bylaws, rules/regulations and policies and procedures to ensure compliance with state and federal regulatory agencies and national accrediting organizations.
  • Providing assistance to the VPMA regarding peer review issues and other Medical Staff organizational matters
