2009 Employee Annual Fund Campaign

Together we are making a difference

Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation's Employee Annual Fund Campaign helps raise funds to support the Employee CareFund, to support areas of greatest need and to support a care area of particular interest to you. The CareFund provides for the emergency needs of employees who find themselves facing an unexpected or catastrophic financial hardship. In 2008 the PHS Employee CareFund provided over $109,000 in financial support to 62 employees who needed help with rent, mortgage, and utility payments, along with other necessities.  This was the highest dollar amount since its inception.

Each year your generosity surpasses the previous year's, and we greatly appreciate your support and belief in our work. You make our day every time you so generously donate your dollars to make a difference in the quality of life for others in our community. By filling out a pledge card, you are continuing the tradition of caring and compassion so representative of Presbyterian employees.

The Employee CareFund provides assistance to all PHS employees, including the entire Presbyterian Delivery System. PHP employees are provided the same assistance through the PHP Employee CareFund, which is funded through the PHP administrative budget.

We've Made A Difference for Mellanie and her son, Seth

This is a story of Mother Nature at her angriest, technology at its highest and Presbyterian at its finest.

On March 23, 2007, weather advisories had been on the air all day long: heavy storms and high winds, possibly spawning tornadoes heading for Clovis and environs. Of course, spring storms in Clovis were nothing new to Mellanie Bateshansky, a 22 year resident and a smart cookie of a radiologic technologist at PRMC. So she took the warnings in stride.

As a typical daughter would, she ignored her mother's warnings to stay at home, sent her son Seth, who was apoplectic at the prospect of having to spend the evening at home, out skating with friends, and went out to dinner herself with a girlfriend.

Within five minutes of sitting down to dinner, the tornado alarms went off and within 30 seconds, everyone in the restaurant was in a tight huddle in the middle of the main dining room. Mell couldn't reach her son by cell phone but text messaging saved her from 'losing it.' He was fine with his friends at the rink.

About an hour later, her friend Sharon collected her and her son and drove them home. "My first reaction to the security lights swinging freely against the side of the house, "Mel said," was 'Well, that's not so bad'". Sharon said, "Security lights, are you kidding, where's your roof?"

Over the next days and weeks, Mell packed boxes, vacated her home, moved her family including her miniature dachshund, into a friend's rental unit, cleared all the insurance hurdles and applied for financial assistance from the Presbyterian Employee CareFund. The CareFund provided assistance for time off work by giving her 80 hours of PTO donated by employees from their own PTO banks, giving her funds to help with the deductible on her home owners insurance, meet cost of living expenses such as groceries, household items, and utilities, and helping to pay for things her insurance did not cover.

Now almost a year later, life is settling back to normal. "This experience made me realize how fortunate I am to have Presbyterian," Mell said, "this isn't just a place to work, as everyone I came into contact with truly cared about me and my son."

"Presbyterian took care of us during a time when it would have been so easy to feel you are all alone," she said. "I am so proud to be employed by Presbyterian, the caring and compassion I received, it made me feel like I was working in my own family business."

2009 Employee Annual Fund Campaign

Last year on October 24, Presbyterian celebrated its Centennial. For over 100 years we have looked after the health and well-being of our employees, members and patients, giving so many optimism and hope for the future.

Presbyterian’s CareFund provides for the emergency needs of its employees who find themselves facing an unexpected or catastrophic financial hardship. By filling out a pledge card, you are continuing the tradition of caring and compassion, two words that have become synonymous with Presbyterian’s employees.

In 2009 Presbyterian Healthcare Foundation allocated more than $1.2 million to Presbyterian Healthcare Services and the community.
